WHY WE OPPOSE MEASURE A
We are Stronger without Strong Mayor
Neighborhoods lose their voice in City governance with Strong Mayor
-
All power transferred from Neighborhood Council members to just the Mayor
-
Decisions will be made in private rather than in public
-
City Manager and every department head will be controlled by the Mayor.
-
Mayor will control all Sacramento priorities, projects and services.
-
Biggest donors and special interest groups will control Sacramento’s direction.
Less Accountability and Transparency with Strong Mayor
-
Mayor will no longer attend Council Council meetings.
-
Mayor will no longer hear public testimony
-
Mayor can fire and hire City Manager at will
-
Mayor can line item veto any budget item
Locks $40 million dollars out of budget every year with Strong Mayor
-
Will restrict the City’s ability to increase essential City services
-
$40 million carve out leaves City no ability to adjust spending when the next emergency, natural disaster or recession hits.
-
Ballot box budgeting at its worst!
-
Sets a terrible precedent for any future special interest ballot measures.
No convincing argument has been made to change to Strong Mayor
-
Measure A “Strong Mayor” change is completely unnecessary
-
Current Council / Manager system works well in Sacramento
-
Current Council system offers more diversity and equity than “Strong Mayor”.
-
Sacramento is better than Los Angeles, Oakland, San Francisco and Fresno.
